Law enforcement faced with multiple challenges
The methamphetamine wave has placed law
enforcement and other first-responders in a
difficult position. Their mission includes:
-- Attacking the source, which means
both domestic labs and increased
smuggling -- particularly on
the border with Mexico.
-- Trying to stay ahead of meth cooks who
are increasingly willing to use dangerous
methods (such as the one-pot method in
the video at right).
-- Breaking up distribution rings at both
the local and national level.
-- Dealing with the violence and domestic
abuse that follows meth users.
-- Trying to keep up with property crimes
committed by addicts seeking funds for
their next fix.
