Officials back pseudoephedrine prescription bill
Jackson, MS - Gov. Haley Barbour and Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant said Tuesday they support legislation requiring cold sufferers to obtain physicians' prescriptions before buying products like Claritin-D and Sudafed that contain pseudoephedrine, the key ingredient in the illegal drug methamphetamine. Should the legislation be approved, Mississippi would become the second state to restrict cold and sinus medicines to such a degree.
Group to bridge meth program's funding gap
Allegan County, MI - Allegan County’s award-winning methamphetamine diversion program is getting a second chance thanks to a Grand Haven-based group. The Lakeshore Coordinating Council is close to awarding $70,000 to the program. “We’re happy we’re able to do it,” said Karen Youngs Hartley, executive director of the council.
Police seek mother of toddler who ingested meth
IN - A 25-year-old Kokomo mother faces a felony neglect charge after her 2-year-old child allegedly drank from a cup containing methamphetamine. A warrant was issued Friday for Heather M. Roe, 25, out of Howard Circuit Court charging her with Class C felony neglect. She has not yet been arrested and police are looking for her.
Teen helped mother make meth, buy ingredients
Hurley, MS - A 40-year-old Hurley mother allegedly told drug agents, "I deserve it," when she was charged with felony child abuse and manufacturing methamphetamine, authorities said Tuesday. Amy Prassenos, of the 6800 block of Whites Farm Road, was charged Friday after several community members called the Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County and reported that Prassenos' 14-year-old daughter was buying meth-making ingredients and assisting her mother in cooking batches of the drug, authorities said.
