Miss.'s prescription to combat meth begins to make a difference
MS - It's been nearly a month since cold and sinus medications, like Sudafed, have required a prescription in Mississippi, and pharmacists say, the change is already helping to fight meth. Steve Oliver, owner of Oliver Drug Store in Southaven, typically sells more than 100 boxes of Sudafed a week, but since July 1st, each week he's been lucky to sell a dozen. "The biggest thing we've seen change is people coming in, not familiar with the new law, and they're frustrated." Oliver says, "They can't understand why they can't buy their cold medicine."
Blue Meth Latest Marketing Tool for Dealers
INDEPENDENCE, MO - Police across the metro say that they are seeing a new drug fad that they say may have been inspired by a television show, and the rise in 'blue meth" may be putting more green in drug dealers pockets. Area police say that 'blue meth' has been appearing across the metro area, with KCMO Police making four meth arrests in the Northland in the past three weeks. Police in Independence also say that they have been seeing the drug, which they say may have been popularized by the TV program "Breaking Bad," about a chemistry teacher turned meth cook.
NTSB blames pilot's meth, narcotic use for deadly helicopter crash
OK - The National Transportation Safety Board blames the pilot's drug use and lack of sleep for a helicopter crash last year that killed him and his female passenger. According to the NTSB's probable cause report released Thursday afternoon, the crash was caused by "the pilot's impairment due to recent heavy use of methamphetamine, recent use of a narcotic pain reliever, and fatigue."
6 kids found at meth lab, from infant to 10
MS - Six children are in state custody and their father is facing drug charges after Hinds County deputies found a suspected meth-making operation in their Raymond home. Jason Travis Sanders, 34, of Cedar Ridge Drive faces three charges related to possession and manufacturing of crystal methamphetamine. Sheriff's Department officials also say they may file additional charges against him and other adults in the house, including the mother, for child endangerment.
