Argentina seizes over 4 tons of meth ingredients
Buenos Aires, Argentina - Argentine customs officers have seized more than four tons of a chemical that can be used to make methamphetamine during an investigation into drug traffickers with ties to Mexico.
Mario Crespo, director of investigations for the customs service, says a total of 4.2 metric tons (4.6 tons) of pseudoephedrine was confiscated at several government warehouses at the port in Buenos Aires on Wednesday. No arrests were made.
Carlos Stornelli, justice minister for the province, says the drug seizure is related to an investigation into a clandestine meth lab that was discovered near Buenos Aires last year at which nine Mexicans were arrested.
Man gets 20 years for meth
Independence, MO - A federal judge Wednesday sentenced an Independence man to 20 years without parole for his role in a large-scale conspiracy to make and ship methamphetamine.
Jeremiah L. Harris, also known as “Luke,” was among four others who were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple.
The other co-defendants were Shelli M. Smith, 44, Shawn P. Berkstresser, 42, and Tracy J. Kerr, 39, all of Kansas City, Mo., and Eric V. Cares, 46, of Lee’s Summit.
The five each pleaded guilty to manufacturing more than 15 kilograms of meth from January 2006 to April 2008.
Harris also pleaded guilty to creating a “substantial risk of harm to human life” while making or attempting to make the drug, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Kansas City.
