Firefighters learn dangers of calls involving meth
AL - Firefighters from several area departments gathered at the Central Volunteer Fire Department in Huntsville for a class about the dangers of methamphetamine. Central Fire Chief Howard Thompson said, "We're running to a lot of EMS calls, and we're starting to see a lot more meth users out there in the field." Firefighters often respond to emergencies where meth is involved, and the dangerous ingredients can be found most anywhere, and they can explode.
FBI informant convicted in drug case
CA - A former San Diego resident relocated after working for the FBI as a confidential informant has admitted to federal charges in connection with a plot to deal methamphetamine, federal prosecutors said. Andrea Gomez, 31, worked for the FBI from 2006 to 2008 during its so-called Keys to The City probe. She was a key witness at trial. The probe, featured in a Discovery Channel documentary entitled “Inside The FBI,” followed the investigation into Latino street gang members and supposed ties to the Mexican Mafia.
Colorado meth project hosting public educational program
CO - As part of the Colorado Meth Project, the Brush Rotary Club will host a public educational program on the dangers of methamphetamine use next week. The club will host a meet-and-greet session at 6:30 p.m., and the program will start at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at Brush Middle School, 401 Howard St. Due to the sensitive nature of the program, free child-care service will be available on site. “If people wonder whether or not Morgan County has a meth problem, Morgan County’s treatment admission rate in 2008 for methamphetamine was nearly three times the state average,” said Amy Robbins of the Brush Rotary Club.
Newborn found in meth lab bust
AL - Russell County narcotics agents are on the scene of a meth lab bust at a Phenix City trailer park. Members of the PAIN Narcotics Task Force were called to the mobile home park on Pine Ridge Trail off White Rock Road Wednesday morning. There, agents say they found an active shake and bake meth lab- one where the chemicals are mixed in plastic bottles.
