Meth seizures rose 82 percent at California border
San Diego, CA - More than 145 tons of narcotics were seized at U.S.-Mexico ports of entry in San Diego and Imperial counties during the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, a 20 percent increase from the previous fiscal year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Tuesday.
The drugs were confiscated at border checkpoints at San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Tecate, Calexico and Andrade, said Angelica De Cima, a CBP spokeswoman.
Meth use down, prescription drug use up at Indian reservation
The investigation into the abuse of prescription pills and other illegal narcotics in Roosevelt County and Fort Peck Indian Reservation began back in April of this year.
And this week's arrests appear to be just the beginning of the issue.
With problems including prescription drug crime like burglaries, robberies and homicides, as well as prescription pill related diseases from intravenous drug use, Roosevelt County Sheriff Freedom Crawford says the problem is huge.
Traffic stop yields 15 pounds of meth
Birmingham, AL - A traffic stop on a Birmingham interstate turned up about 15 pounds of methamphetamine worth an estimated $750,000, authorities announced today.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Highway Safety Task Force stopped a silver SUV eastbound on Interstate 20 between Irondale and Leeds Monday afternoon, said sheriff's spokesman Lt. Randy Christian.
