Authorities seize $1.4 million worth of crystal meth at border
AZ - Border authorities say they've seized more than 13.6 kilograms of crystal meth that a man was trying to smuggle into Arizona from Mexico. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say they stopped a pickup truck at the Douglas Port of Entry last Friday. An inspection led to the discovery of several packages of crystal meth concealed inside a compartment built into the firewall behind the truck's back seat. They say the packages of crystal meth has an estimated street value of $1.4 million.
Three young children removed after meth arrests
SC - Three children, ages 2 to 5, were removed from an active drug house Monday afternoon, according to Aiken County sheriff’s Capt. Troy Elwell. Authorities went to the residence on Family Park Circle in Aiken after receiving numerous complaints about the home being a known methamphetamine lab, Elwell said. Officers were given permission by homeowner Donna Johnson to search the home, where officers found several items related to the manufacturing of meth sitting in plain view. After obtaining search warrants, officers returned to the premises and found an active meth lab, Elwell said.
Students make anti-ice pledge
HI - A panel of community judges consisting of adults and teenagers has chosen an anti-ice pledge from a contest for intermediate school students on the Big Island. The winning pledge actually combines the best portions of pledges written by two separate students from Waiakea Intermediate School. The first two lines were composed by 8th grader Ridge Quitoriano, and the last three lines were written by 7th grader Kamanu Evangelista. The pledge will be recited by participants at HI-PAL events, beginning with the 30th Annual Winter Basketball Classic being held Dec. 26-29. The pledge reads as follows:
