prevalence in the Chicago area. The state recently
ranked fourth in meth-related arrests. Estimates
place the cost of the meth epidemic at about $2
billion per year when crime, loss of productivity
incarcerations and the impact on families and
children are taken into account. Illinois has
joined the growing list of "Meth Project" states
that use graphic advertising vehicles to help
sway youth from using the drug.

Speaking of meth
“Only when we take an aggressive stand against teen drug use, can we begin to see the positive
impact outreach efforts like this project can have on a community. It’s a startling statistic to
realize almost 4% of Illinois high schoolers use methamphetamines.”
- Rep. Aaron Schock said
“Meth is still a huge problem for our state, it hasn’t gone away and we
hope to have a positive impact on our community with the Meth commercials.”
- Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy.
