Crime follows meth into the neighborhood
Federal DEA agents on Sept. 16-17 arrested 175 people and
confiscated more than 1,000 pounds of methamphetamine
in one of the largest investigations this year.
Such large-scale stings are welcome news to those
battling the meth epidemic. However, legions of meth users
committing petty crimes to feed their habit constitute a
major problem of their own. Recent examples:
- Colorado auto theft ring of suspected meth users
- Hawaiian postal worker and meth user jailed for
stealing mail for identity theft
- Meth addicts steal tools and materials from
building sites in several states
- At least seven counterfeiters were jailed in Idaho --
many of the bogus bills went to buy meth.
- Texas authorities identify a forgery ring also linked to meth.
