Ad campaign targets meth use in Indian Country
Albuquerque, NM - Federal officials are launching a new national advertising campaign aimed at curbing methamphetamine use in American Indian communities. The director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, Gil Kerlikowske, unveiled the campaign Tuesday during a stop in Albuquerque. He was joined by Assistant Interior Secretary for Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk, New Mexico Indian Affairs Secretary Alvin Warren and others.
Ill. conference brings together meth fighters
Carterville, IL - An annual gathering at John A. Logan College in Carterville this week serves as a reminder to local service agencies that the region’s battle against methamphetamine is a community-wide effort. About 500 local law enforcement personnel, medical personnel and social service workers are participating in the seventh annual Southern Illinois Meth and Other Drugs Awareness Conference, a two-day event running through the end of today.
Woman burned in meth lab explosion and fire
Huntington, WV - A small explosion and fire Wednesday morning sends one woman to the hospital with burns to 30% of her body according to police. The Olive Hill Police Department tells us that just after 4 a.m. the fire broke out at an apartment at Cold Springs Town Homes. It's believed a meth lab was operating in the apartment that caught fire.
