Vancouver grapples with drug-related gang violence
Vancouver, British Columbia - When Canadian cocaine smuggler Charles Lai was being sentenced in a Seattle federal courtroom last month, the judge sending him to prison for 13 years offered a small item of good news.
At least behind bars, Judge James Robart said, drug smuggler Lai would not become another fatality in Vancouver's gang wars.
Siblings charged with making meth
TN - A search warrant executed Wednesday by the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office uncovered an active meth lab, leading to the arrest of a brother and sister.
According to a press release from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, the search was executed near Bristol, Tenn., at 1702 Highway 126, Lot No. 1. Emmett Vernon and Amanda Schafer, brother and sister, were at the residence when officers arrived.
Appalachian meth ring busted
Steuben County, NY - Police say they have stopped a major Southern Tier methamphetamine manufacturer and distributor with an arrest on Wednesday and arrests earlier this week.
The arrests are the result of grand jury indictments and a six-month drug investigation, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
NASCAR wants driver's ban reinstated for alleged meth use
Charlotte, NC - NASCAR on Wednesday asked an appeals court to ban Jeremy Mayfield from racing, alleging the participation of "a proven methamphetamine user" could lead to fatal consequences for other competitors and fans.
NASCAR wants the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn U.S. District Court Judge Graham Mullen's decision last week to lift Mayfield's indefinite suspension following a positive drug test.
