More women, teens becoming meth users
Redwood City, CA - Amanda Alvarez still recalls the bemused face of the smoke shop clerk the first time she browsed for meth pipes in her tidy career wear and tailored coat.
Alvarez, who is in residential treatment at Redwood City’s Hope House, has been sober for six months after a nine-year struggle with methamphetamine.
No new help to fight growth in Mississippi meth labs
MS - Mississippi is trying to curb a rising rate of illegal drug activity, even as the state's slowing revenues force the state's narcotics agency to hold off hiring more help.
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Marshall Fisher said there were 2,944 drug arrests in the state during the fiscal year that ended June 30. That's 524 more than in the previous fiscal year.
Report shows decline in Ohio meth use
Fremont, OH - State studies show cocaine and methamphetamine use are on the decline, but there is little evidence to support that in Sandusky County, authorities say.
Last month, the Ohio Substance Abuse Monitoring Network issued an 80-page report on state drug trends. It summarizes data collected from June 2008 to January by epidemiologists in the Athens, Akron, Canton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo and Youngstown areas.
